Pros;

1. Foldable sturdy stand

2. Inexpensive (compared to ToteVision and Marshall Electronics monitors)

3. VGA input with separate video inputs that doesn't use an adapter cable (that can break)as other version do.

4. Effecient switching power supply. Power comsumption was slightly lower than 8" version (1.0a at 12.5vdc)

5. Black bezel.

6. 800x600 resolution. Passes 4.5MHz burst, but doesn't pass 6.75MHz burst on multiburst pattern. Estimate of 550 TVL (same as 8" version).

Cons;

1. So-so image quality with non computer sources. Soft image, especially with CCTV cameras.

2. LCD will wash out if you raise contrast and/or brightness up too far. Settings when tested with composite sources were 70 contrast & 65 brightness.

3. Color satuation level needs to be almost full (90-95).

4. No 'On' indicator on unit.

I received the UM-720S promptly after ordering it, and I had no problem connecting it and starting to use it under Windows XP. It's very nice that only a single USB cable is required (as some USB-powered devices need to be plugged into two USB ports to get enough power). The display is crisp and bright, and the driver allows it to be rotated. The touchscreen functionality works reasonably well - it requires a firm press to register consistently, and the tracking is typical for these kind of screens (i.e. it's nowhere near the responsiveness of tracking on an iphone). It's very nice that you can use a stylus instead of your finger. The screen and stand are incredibly thin and compact when folded up. The USB connector comes straight out of the back of the screen, which may be awkward for some applications (like mine), but a right-angle USB connector can be obtained very cheaply. For the price, and for particular applications (such as building a custom controller), this is a very good product, and is currently quite unique. I'm getting close to ordering a second one, which should tell you how much I like it.

UPDATE: I just discovered that OpenGL operations do not work on a DisplayLink device (such as this monitor). So, if you're doing custom development of software to make use of this monitor, you should be sure to NOT use an OpenGL-based library. The DisplayLink drivers may support OpenGL, someday, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I was looking for an additional monitor to use with Acer Aspire M5800 and I came across Mimo 720s. Glad, I did! It is a portable device, so I can use it with my notebook too and it fits into my notebook case perfectly. It only operates through USB, so no power cords or graphic cards are necessary. It has its own graphic card, therefore it does not need to use computer's RAM, CPU, etc. It occupies two USB ports though, I wish Mimo could handle it with one USB cable. Software was easy to setup. Once I calibrated the screen, I did not come across problems with the touch screen. Touch screen response is quite smooth and reliable. Mimo can be horizontal and vertical, but it does not go through horizontal to vertical like the iPhone, you need to manually adjust it from the software. It could play high quality movies with no problem. Outlook, iTunes and MSN work great on it with the touch screen ability. But the best use I found out for Mimo is that when I watch a movie or play games on my main monitor, I can see whats going on at the background with Mimo. So far, I am very pleased with my purchase and definitely recommend it!

I had to return the first one I bought because it arrived not packaged very well and the screen and electronics had broken away from the plastic casing. Returned it and got another one. I actually bought this to plug into my PDA, sometimes I use this while traveling so I don't have to carry my laptop, together with a bluetooth keyboard I can get my emails out and use skype etc, while in a place I can watch moves and the like without having a full laptop/netbook. At first I thought what I was looking at was a result of my PDA output. So I plugged it into my laptop and it was the same.The color reproduction was far from correct (overcast with blue/green) and this too was not constant it changed, so trying to change settings to correct for it is not a permanent solution. I only use it lightly for looking at emails and the odd web page. Strange solution I know, ( I will get a netbook next) but that does not change the fact that this is not up to scratch.
